Just as in the She Devils 2s’ first encounter, this was very much a game of two halves, but this time it was the Devils who took it to Seoul, piling on the early pressure and making Seoul work for every ball. Their pressure paid off after just two minutes when Erin Hackett went over for an excellent long range try.
A couple of minutes later Charlie Surridge received a pass from Cano on the left flank and took off down the wing to run in her first ever Devils try under the posts – she duly converted to put the Devils 12 points up at the break.
In the second half the Seoul Sisters pulled the rather sneaky maneuver of subbing on their first team’s super speedy wing and from the first moment their strategy was clear – big rucks, get the ball to the ringer, sorry winger, and run in the tries. The Devils, however, had other ideas, getting right down Seoul’s throat and denying them as much possession as possible. Kate Sliney was once again magisterial in the tackle and Seoul struggles to execute their strategy. Eventually they did manage to feed their winger and she ran in an excellent solo try to set up an anxious last 5 minutes with the score at 12-5. Lucy Francis, off the bench for the Devils after Cano received a brutal dead leg, almost replied immediately when she made a blistering breakaway run down the left only to be chased down and tackled five metres from the line with support nowhere in sight. However, it was Seoul who made the breakthrough 30 seconds from the end when once again the winger went on a solo cross-field run to touch down. However, a tireless chase by Erin Hackett proved to be absolutely pivotal: as a result, Seoul could not ground the ball under the posts and the conversion fell short – from there the final whistle blew, to hand the She Devils their vest victory of the day.
