The Devils came away with a decisive victory in the first Yellow Sea Cup match to be played in Guangzhou. To be fair, the scoreline was not indicative of overall play as two very late tries by the ‘never say die’ Guangzhou Rams made the final score a bit closer.
The Devils arrived at the field and were immediately smothered by the hot and muggy air. Glancing over to see the opposition, it was noted a few of the China/PLA boys were being welcomed to the team. The Devils knew they would have to be on form to get the win.
As was the case in their last game, the Devils came out quite well and exploited gaps in the Rams defense to score first. The Devils added a second before the Rams roared back with a try of their own. Anyone’s game at this point. However, the Devils did not panic and slowly but surely took the Rams out of the game. Halftime score read 29-5.
While the heat and humidity definitely seemed to have a bigger impact on the Devils, they kept plugging away and scored a few more tries early in the second half to put the game out of reach. Kudos to the Rams however as their persistence and determination led to some late tries to make the scoreline a bit more respectable. Final 48 – 22.
